It wasn't hard to find situations that would turn you off from dining in SS15. An example today were some of the cake pans being stacked on the floor at the back of the store, where the drains are.

I think what Ken and the council team are trying to do right now is make sure business owners actually understand the requirements, not just get slapped with enforcement.

One thing that keeps coming up in SS15 is the state of the public drains along the back lanes. Some spots have had concrete slabs or extensions built right over the drains, which means KDEB and council workers can't get in to clean or maintain them. This has been a problem for a while. Back in 2023, MBSJ demolished 25 illegally built slabs along Jalan USJ1/19 and USJ1/20 in Taman Subang Permai.

Aside from that, we have the recurring issues of the rats, which is always scary, not to mention the recent topic of where the gas tanks should be stored.

For food businesses in Subang Jaya, there's council licensing, food hygiene rules under MOH's Food Hygiene Regulations, fire safety standards, and then whatever your landlord requires on top of all that. It's a lot. While it might seem challenging for business owners, those regulations are there so the rest of us can eat in Subang Jaya without worrying.
