About MBSJ

Background

Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBSJ) was officially granted city council status in 2019, upgrading from its former status as Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ). The city council was originally established in 1997 when the area was separated from Petaling Jaya to form its own administrative district.

Today, MBSJ is one of the most modern and progressive local authorities in Selangor, serving a large, diverse, and growing urban population.

Jurisdiction

MBSJ administers a total area of approximately 183 km² covering:

SS zones (SS12 to SS19 and surrounding areas)
USJ 1 to USJ 28
Putra Heights
Bandar Puteri Puchong
Bandar Sunway and PJS areas
Taman Wangsa Baiduri and Taman Tanamera

The council oversees more than 200,000 residential properties and serves a population of over 700,000 residents.

Core Responsibilities

Planning & Development

Approving development plans, building permits, and land use decisions. Ensuring orderly development aligned with the Subang Jaya Local Plan.

Infrastructure

Maintaining roads, drains, streetlights, and public amenities. Managing infrastructure upgrades and repairs across the city.

Environment & Cleanliness

Solid waste collection, recycling programs, public parks, and green spaces. Enforcing cleanliness standards and environmental bylaws.

Revenue Collection

Assessing and collecting cukai taksiran (assessment tax) from property owners. Licensing businesses and issuing permits.

Public Services

Providing community facilities, public halls, libraries, and recreational spaces. Running community programmes and events.

Enforcement

Enforcing local bylaws, handling illegal structures, parking enforcement, and noise complaints. Coordinating with other agencies on public order.
